    How Delusional Are You?

It's a question we all need to ask ourselves sometimes: Am I being realistic about what I want in a partner? Or are my standards so high that I'm essentially looking for a unicorn?

This isn't about shame or lowering your expectations. It's about self-awareness. Our free calculator uses real demographic data to give you a cold, hard answer—and it might just change how you approach dating.

    The Quiz That Went Viral

"How Delusional Are You?" started as a simple concept: take people's dating preferences and show them the math. What percentage of the population actually meets their criteria?

The results shocked people. Someone looking for a "normal" partner—tall, successful, fit, around their age, single—discovered their dating pool was less than 1% of the population. Others with seemingly modest standards learned they were actually quite reasonable.

The tool went viral because it does something rare in the dating advice space: it gives you data, not opinions.

    What Makes You Delusional?

"Delusion" in dating usually comes from one of these sources:

    • Cumulative selectivity: Each individual preference seems reasonable, but they compound to create an impossible standard
    • Media distortion: Social media and dating apps show us the highlight reel, skewing our sense of what's "normal"
    • Outcome ignorance: Not understanding how rare certain traits actually are in the general population
    • Reciprocity blindness: Having strict requirements without considering what you offer in return

Our calculator addresses the first three directly. The fourth is up to you to reflect on.

    How the Delusion Score Works

After you enter your preferences, we calculate your dating pool size and assign a "Delusion Score" from 1-10:

    • 1-2: Very realistic. Large dating pool. Might even be too unselective.
    • 3-4: Grounded. Healthy standards with reasonable pool size.
    • 5-6: Moderately selective. Noticeable but manageable restrictions.
    • 7-8: Highly selective. Small dating pool—patience required.
    • 9-10: Unicorn hunting. Your ideal partner is statistically rare.

The score is calibrated against typical user preferences, so it's relative, not absolute. A "5" means you're about as selective as the average person taking this quiz.

    What People Learn

Users frequently report these insights after using the calculator:

    • "I had no idea height was such a big filter." Requiring 6'0"+ eliminates 85% of men immediately.
    • "Income and education don't combine like I thought." Wanting a college-educated high earner is more restrictive than expected.
    • "My 'must-have' list was actually a 'unicorn' list." Stacking multiple top-20% traits creates a top-0.1% requirement.
    • "I'm actually not that picky—I was just unlucky." Some users learn their standards are quite reasonable.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is calling someone 'delusional' offensive?

We use 'delusional' tongue-in-cheek. Having high standards isn't a character flaw—it's just a choice with consequences. Our calculator helps you understand those consequences.

    How accurate is this quiz?

We use real census and demographic data, so the underlying statistics are solid. The 'delusion score' is our interpretation of those statistics, calibrated against typical user preferences.

Will this tell me to lower my standards?

No. We don't give advice—we give data. What you do with that information is entirely up to you. Many users decide their standards are worth keeping despite the small pool.

What if I score 10/10 (maximum delusion)?

A 10/10 means your preferences describe someone extremely rare—perhaps 1 in 100,000 or fewer. This isn't inherently bad if you're willing to wait and search widely for that rare match.

Does this work for LGBTQ+ users?

Yes! You can specify any gender and who you're looking for. Keep in mind that LGBTQ+ dating pools are smaller by default, which is reflected in the calculations.

    Can I share my results?

Absolutely. We have built-in sharing that generates an image of your results. Many people share on social media—comparing delusion scores has become a thing.
